Movember 2011 - Team Completes Movember

At the end of Movember the Service Team aka The Furry Caterpillars raised a total of £956 for charity.

Dean Russell, Service Manager at First City Care said “We are all in agreement to say its been a big challenge but has been very worth it. Having the strange looks has given us the chance to discuss means health, and bring to peoples attention the fantastic charity we have raised money for.”

This was the most successful fundraising year to date for Movember. The Movember Team will now collaborate and work together with their partners on developing world-class research and survivorship strategies in line with their long-term strategic goals.

Movember 2011 - First City Care Movember Team

On the 1st November the First City Care Service Team aka the “Furry Caterpillar Club” put down their razors to take part in this years Movember to raise funds and awareness of mens health, specifically Prostate and other cancers which affect men.

During November each year Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces in the UK and around the World. These selfless, generous men, known as Mo Bros, groom, trim and wax their way to fine moustachery.

Dean Russell, Service Manager at First City Care said “We as a Service Department have decided to take part in this years Movember and play our part in raising this health issue to the people we meet during our everyday activities. We also hope to raise some money along the way too…….At present the team’s moustaches are very promising and we have already raised £160 in sponsorship money which is fantastic considering we are only 7 days into the month.”

August 2011 - Environmental and Health & Safety Accreditation

First City Care has been certified to Environmental Management System Gold (ISO 14001:2004) and Health and Safety Gold (BS OHSAS 18001:2007) which demonstrates the company’s commitment to continually improve its Environmental and Health and Safety performance. These certifications are in addition to First City Care’s existing NACOSS Gold (BS ISO 9001:2008) accreditation.

The Welwyn Garden City-based firm recently received these accreditations from the National Security Inspectorate (NSI), a UKAS accredited body which is the specialist approvals and certification body that inspects companies providing home security, business security and fire safety services.

Employing 101 people First City Care is principally involved in the installation, integration and servicing of electronic security systems for their extensive client base. First City Care focus on blue chip companies within the financial, legal and construction sectors and have a turnover in excess of £12 million.

Daniel Looney, Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Manager at First City Care said “The achievement of these accreditations is very satisfying following a lot of work by the whole team. I have worked closely with a cross section of the company to deliver meaningful systems which genuinely improve the business.”

The company’s alignment to these accreditations was driven by the commitment to continually improve its Environmental and Health and Safety Culture and striving for excellence in these areas.

Commenting on the achievement of First City Care, Jeff Little, OBE, Chief Executive of NSI stated, “Seeking certifications such as Environmental Management and Health & Safety underline the proactive thinking of First City Care. End-users are increasingly seeking proof of competence in these key areas. These latest approvals will provide even greater reassurance of capability and quality to First City Care’s existing and future clients.”

In the years ahead we will be developing our management systems further with the aim of sustaining a working environment where protecting employee and customer safety whilst minimising our impact on the environment is our priority”

ISO 14001 and BS OHSAS 18001 accreditations are expected to enhance the company’s ability to attract new contracts and its commitment to safety will be viewed positively by its client base.


August 2011 - Long Service Award

Mark Smith, Technical Manager at First City Care was recently presented with a Long Service Award. Mark joined the company aged 22 as a trainee engineer and has worked his way up to his current role today as Technical Manager.

Mark is jointly responsible for the Technical Team that provides technical expertise, knowledge and support to the security installations that First City Care carries out. He is a valued member of the team and well respected by colleagues and customers.
